Automotion - A Look at the Past
This was the 7th straight year I was able to attend the Wisconsin Dells automotion car show. To be honest, I can't even remeber how I first found out about the event.
In 2006 (the first year of attendance) I was mearly a young college student not even of legal drinking here in Wisconsin.
Automotion 2006 was the year that it all changed (or so I hear). Automotion 2006 was also the first time I ever got to ride in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII. It was a very memorable moment to me even though it was not very eventful. That night however was a very eventful one.
I drove down to Automotion that year in my 1991 FWD turbo talon. I was accompanied by multiple friends with similar cars, mostly DSM's. Car's doing burnouts on the street seemed to be very common among the crowded streets of downtown Wisconsin Dells. Not only are the streets full of cars, but the sidewalks are jammed packed with people watching and waiting for some excitement. A friend of mine that was cruising in front on me decided to do a little burnout, I did the same. Before I knew it, A cop on foot jumps out in front of me and points me to a near by parking lot to issue a fine. Mind you, I was not the only one doing a burnout, so others joined in the bad boy parking lot. However, it is noteworth that my friend in front of me that did a burnout too, somehow managed to get off without getting in any trouble.
Disorderly Conduct with a motor vehicle. Yes, that is techincal term for a burnout fine in Wisconsin Dells. Well that put a damper on my night...for a good hour. Luckily a friends of mine gets the idea to walk the crowded streets and try to collect donations towards the fine I was going to have to pay off. Armed with a baseball cap and my fine, we went out to collect some funds. I am not going to lie, it was hard to get the first couple of bucks and I was starting to think we were wasting our time. But one a couple more people threw some money in the hat, the ball started rolling. We managed to collect a whole $87! I was pretty siked since my fine was only $187 (after that year, they increased the fine to $500!)
People kept doing burnouts and getting fines until eventually the police closed down the streets! Even more craziness took place after that. While it was a lot of fun, 2006 appeared to be the last year of many cars doing burnouts on the street. Every year since, people have been hinder by outrageous fines and a large number of law enforcement cracking down. (which is why the edge o' dells event now takes place)
Automotion is such a unique event because it brings together a bigger mix and variety of cars than anything else I know of. All of the actual show cars are 20+ years old, but the streets are filled with 3000GT's, DSM, EVO's, Civic's, Mustang's, Camaro's, Viper's, S2000's, GTR's, Supra's and much more. Now that is my kind of car show.
Fast Foward to 2012. 2012 was a first in multiple aspecs. It was the first time I never spent one second at the "car show" and it was the first time I never actually spent a whole day at the Dells. A friends car broke so we ended up leaving the dells around 1130pm so we could arive in Green Bay around 2am, only to drive back the next day to get the broken DSM ahh memories. A lot of other story are told though videos of past years. Check them all out here. Below are a couple video from the 2012 Automotion event.

Autocross is boring! (to watch)
Auto-crossing can be boring to watch. Yes I said it. I know a lot of my fans are thinking I could never say such blasphemy. But I feel this is the view of many people, even many automotive fanatics such as myself.
Part of my reason for stating that autocrossing is boring to watch is this. When I film any event, I use about 10% of the footage I capture in my final video. So if my final compilation video is a 5 minute video, that most likely means I have over 5 hours of raw footage from that event.
Last weekend I went to the Miller Park autocross in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I was only able to stay for about 2.5 hours and in that time I filmed about 1.5 hours. Now, like most things in life, it really comes down to what you make of it. I had a good time talking with friends I knew that were competing in the event and checking out the variety of cars. This was my first time filming at this location, which also make it more exciting for me. Filming at the same venue over and over again can get boring for. Even though USAir in Shawano Wisconsin is a very unique track with a wide variety of options for filming, I've overplayed it in my book.
So what am I getting at? Well, I try my best to make these events interesting and fun to watch. Which can be a challenging feet with the average attention span of internet users today. So, if you were driving at an event and I did not use you or your car in the final video, you must be a bad driver that is boring to watch. right? NO.
Honestly it can be quite the opposite, especially at auto-x's. Accidents and mistake are more interesting for the average internet user to watch. So, if I capture your mistakes, it will most likely end up in my video. Otherwise, a lot of my clips are based on the way I was able to capture them and nothing else. And the final determination is usually if you look fast or not. Sometime the fastest car at an autocross doesn't look fast, because he or she is so damn good at driving, they make it look too easy.
Keep in mind my main goal is to entice new people into the sport, and really show how much damn fun we are having in a safe environment. Would you do it any differently?
I guess this is the end of my first real blog entry. But with all that being said, When I first started filming these events, it was because I want to see video of myself driving. I know, kinda counter productive ehh? But my point is, if you participated in an event i filmed and want some of the raw footage I have of you, I will be happy to hand it over.
Until next time, thanks for your support! oh yea, here is the video from last weekend if you are bored... or maybe if you want to be bored?

MA performance 2011 Proving Grounds
Whats happening everyone. The CWSCC & Boosted Films crew had a crazy weekend at Brainerd International Raceway (BIR) this past weekend.
The event taking place was the MA Performance Proving Grounds. This event had everything a car lover could possibly want. Drag racing, drifting, autocrossing, a 2.5 mile road course, and even a car show.
This resulted in over 8 hours of footage from the two day event. All the video is finally uploaded and post production has begun.
You can anticipate a compilation video by the end of the week. But besides the normal compilation video, There will be a behind the scenes video as well as some raw footage from each event. So stayed tuned!

Automotion Weekend
Well the automotion car show in Wisconsin Dells was a success in more ways than one. It was a fun weekend with quite a bit of action. Burnouts, cruising, friends, and racing.
Best of all, I was able to get more time behind the new camera (XH-A1) and developed some quality shots. This event was shot in 30p mode with a "naturalo" custom preset.
I was able to make a quick compilation video of just the burnouts which already has over 1000 views on youtube in the 2 days it has been posted.
I am also in the process of creating a compilation video that entails the entire weekend, which is coming together really nicely and should be posted in a few days. Until then, enjoy the burnout video!

First video with the XH-A1
Whats happenin forum.
So I finally got to use my canon xh-a1 at an automotive event! I went to USAir in Shawano WI on May first for an autocross.
Well I've learned a few things from filming this autocross. Most importantly, my computer needs an upgrade. 4gigs ram and 2.8ghz dual core just are not cutting it for this HD video.
I spent 2 days after work editing with a little color correction and another 2 days to figure out the right output setting and actual render time on my slow computer.
So, I'm not really too happy with the resulting quality, but I've learn a bit about canon presets and other thing that I think I can get better from here.
Its been a bit of a bitch, but I'm learning.
I've settled with this because i really don't have to time to screw around anymore and I like to complete videos from events in a timely manner.

dells car show/automotion is this weekend! Should be a good time and a chance to get more time behind the camera.

Boosted Films Goes HD!
Big news! Boosted films has added a third camera! Introducing the Canon XHA,with full HD 1080i recording capabilities.
With this addition, Boosted Films now has two Panasonic SDRS-100s and the canon xh-a1. The two Panasonic camcorders are perfect for in-car recording for two reasons:
They are small camcorders and they record to SD cards. Tapeless recording works best for in-car cameras be of the amount of bouncing an movement inside the car can disrupt camcorders that record to a tape.
Heres a look at the entire set-up.
UPCOMING EVENTS: Lake Winnebago Ice Racing/ Ice Auto X.
Stayed tuned and keep an eye on the racing calendar for more details.
